Something natural, drug free, and easily available? What if I told you that crystals, from the earth, can help to ground you and alleviate stress?
That’s right, wearing beautiful crystal jewelry and gorgeous gemstones heal us on a deeply spiritual level. Perhaps you are drawn to certain crystals and crystal jewelry. You may think you are drawn to the jewelry because of its beauty. What you may not know is that the crystal jewelry and the precious gemstones that you are drawn to may have a positive effect on your psyche. Whether crystal jewelry adorns your wrists, fingers or neck, the gems and crystals are working magic to benefit you.
The belief that crystals have gentle powers is not new. Throughout history, people from all over the planet have turned to the healing power of crystals. From ancient Egyptians to Native Americans, crystals have held significance in spiritual practices and rituals. The ancient Egyptians not only wore crystal jewelry, but they would also bury their dead with Lapiz for protection in the afterlife. For protection, love, money and health in this life, they would carry amulets with different stones for different purposes.ii For eons many Native American tribes have used and continue to use Turquoise for protection and a deeper connection to the spirit world.iii Using Turquoise in jewelry or using any healing stone in jewelry is a convenient & beautiful way to tap into the stone’s power.
Let's look into the metaphysical and spiritual benefits of adorning oneself with gemstones and crystal jewelry. Beyond the beauty of the stones, we have the possibility that the energies of these Earth-born treasures benefit our physical and mental health. Simply by wearing captivating jewelry we can harness the power of crystals and gems for our benefit.
People who use crystals for healing purposes believe that each type of crystal possesses unique energetic properties that influence one's mental, emotional, and physical well-being. When worn as jewelry, the crystal interacts with the body's energy field, or aura, which, in turn, promotes balance and harmony.
Below is a list of popular crystals and their benefits.iv
Amethyst: Known as the stone of spiritual protection. Amethyst is revered for its ability to purify the mind and enhance intuition. Wearing amethyst jewelry is believed to promote calmness and mental clarity, making it an ideal companion for meditation and spiritual practices.
Rose Quartz: Often referred to as the stone of love, rose quartz is associated with compassion, self-love, and emotional healing. Wearing rose quartz jewelry helps cultivate feelings of harmony and inner peace while fostering deeper connections with others.
Clear Quartz: Considered the master healer among crystals, clear quartz is prized for its ability to amplify energy and enhance spiritual growth. Wearing clear quartz jewelry is thought to cleanse the aura, promote clarity of thought, and amplify positive intentions.
Citrine: Symbolizing abundance and prosperity, citrine is believed to attract wealth, success, and joy. Wearing citrine jewelry can uplift the spirit, boost confidence, and encourage a positive outlook on life.
Crystals are often regarded as conduits for spiritual energy, thereby facilitating a deeper connection to the universe and higher realms of consciousness. When worn as jewelry, crystals serve as talismans, reminding the wearer of their inherent connection to the divine and the infinite possibilities that exist within and beyond the material world.
The practice of wearing crystal jewelry is not merely about adornment; it is a conscious choice to align oneself with the energies of the Earth and the cosmos. By selecting crystals that resonate with our intentions and aspirations, we amplify our own power, and this helps us to manifest positive changes in life.
Real-Life Experiences
Over many centuries, we have real accounts from individuals attesting to the transformative effects of wearing crystal jewelry. From increased feelings of peace and well-being to synchronicities and serendipitous encounters, testimonials abound. Whether it's a pendant adorned with a sparkling amethyst, or a bracelet crafted from vibrant citrine, each piece of crystal jewelry carries with it the potential to catalyze profound shifts in consciousness.
Integrating crystal jewelry into your daily routine is a simple yet potent way to tap into the metaphysical realm. Here are some suggestions for incorporating these magical adornments into your life:
Set Intentions: Before donning your crystal jewelry, take a moment to set an intention or affirmation. By infusing your jewelry with your desired outcome, you amplify its energetic impact.
Wear with Awareness: Be mindful of the energy of the crystals you wear and how it interacts with your own energy field. Notice shifts in mood, perception, and physical sensations throughout the day.
Cleanse and Recharge: Just as we need to cleanse our physical bodies, so too do crystals require cleansing to maintain their vibrational purity. Regularly cleansing and recharging your crystal jewelry using methods such as sunlight, moonlight, or smudging with sage is a must.
Trust Your Intuition: Allow your intuition to guide you in selecting the right crystals for each day or occasion. Trust in the wisdom of your inner knowing and let the crystals speak to you on a deeper level.v
Wearing crystal jewelry goes beyond fashion; it is a profound statement that you believe in the interconnectedness of all things. By adorning ourselves with radiant gems, we honor the wisdom of the Earth and open ourselves to the infinite possibilities that lie within and around us. Whenever possible, adorn yourself with sparkling crystals and embark on a journey of self-discovery and transformation. The power is yours to embrace.
Mala beads are a powerful tool in spiritual practices and rituals. Also known as prayer beads, many traditions use Mala beads today, as they have over the centuries. In the Sanskrit language, the word “mala” means “garland”. Used to enhance various spiritual undertakings such as meditation, prayer, and the practice of mindfulness, Mala beads are found all over the globe.
Mala beads originate in ancient India. Both Hindus and Buddhists use mal beads in spiritual practices, such as for counting mantras during meditation and prayer. Each mala consists of 108 beads. The number 108 is a sacred number in Hinduism and Buddhism. There are other numbers that hold a special significance with the beads. For example, 27 and 54 are special numbers too. Each set of numbers has a different purpose. Some practitioners have special numbers which are solely based upon personal preference.
Although they originated in India, the use of mala beads spread across Asia. For example, in Tibet and Japan, mala beads are an important element in spiritual practices. The practitioners in these lands also added the incorporation of sacred materials, such as wood, seeds, and bones, to the mala beads.
In today's new age movement, often crystals are used to create the mala bead. Each type of crystal has its own unique metaphysical property. These various properties enhance the power of the mala beads when the bead is formed from that crystal. Since each crystal contains its own energetic properties, practitioners choose crystals based upon specific intentions. The combination of meditation, prayer, and the incorporation of h mala beads made with special crystals serve as a powerful tool for a number of spiritual undertakings. These spiritual undertakings may include specific rituals and or magical practices.
When properly used, mala beads play an important role in rituals, spells, and magic practices. In rituals and spells, they can be used to set intentions, connect with spiritual energies, or simply enhance the power and efficacy of the spells and intentions.
Many practitioners begin by cleansing and blessing their mala beads. This removes negative energy and infuses the beads with specific intentions. During spells and rituals, each bead is touched and counted while reciting incantations, chants, affirmations, or prayers. This deepens focus and connection to spiritual energies so that the beads can help one to achieve the desired specific outcome.
In the magical arts, mala beads amplify the energy of spells and rituals. Crystals help to enhance goals, intentions, or desired outcome. Practitioners need to be careful to choose the proper crystal, as different crystals evoke different intentions. For example, a practitioner seeking intuition might use an amethyst mala, while someone seeking a protective barrier might choose a black tourmaline mala. The act of repetitive motion of counting and moving over the beads can help induce a trance-like state, enhancing one's ability to connect to different energies. Ultimately, it aids in a practitioner's magical concentration, which can be extremely effective for manifesting one's desires.
Love. We associate so many things in our world with “love.” Diamonds, roses, chocolate, cupid, the color red and so much more. Did you ever stop and wonder why some things in life are associated with the emotion of love?
Because the season of the archer is approaching quickly, we here at Art of the Root wanted to learn more about stones & crystals and how they relate to our feelings. One stone that we adorn love-related candles with is rose quartz. A quick google search reveals the fact that rose quartz is known as the crystal of unconditional love. When we dig a little deeper, we learn that the aura surrounding rose quartz isn’t a New Age creation; it is a long-standing human belief.
Let’s go back- way back, to the ancient Hindu scriptures known as the Vedas. These books are the oldest scriptures of Hinduism.1 Believed to have transitioned from oral tradition to writings somewhere around 1200 BCE to 900 BCE 2, it is from these ancient Sanskrit writings that the Chakras are first identified. The Vedas identify Chakras as a complex system of energies in your body all of which work together. Today the exact meaning and number of chakras varies among Indian religions, however, the heart chakra is common to all. And it is rose quartz that is associated with the opening and balancing of the heart chakra.
Humans’ use of rose quartz is not limited to Indian beliefs, rose quartz is associated with many ancient cultures going back to 7000 BCE. Below are some examples of humans' use of rose quarts throughout time:
Rose Quartz, beads were found in the area once known as Mesopotamia that date back to 7000 BC.
Rose Quartz jewelry was known to be crafted by the Assyrians during the time span of 800-600 BC, and it is believed that the Assyrians along with the Romans were first to use this stone.
Legend claims rose quartz was created when Adonis, lover of the Greek goddess Aphrodite, was attacked by Ares, god of war, in the form of a boar. When Aphrodite rushed to save him she caught herself on a briar bush, and their mingled blood stained the white quartz pink.
The Romans used it for making seals as a sign of ownership and considered it a strong healing stone.
Egyptians believed the pink stone prevented aging.3
When we consider how rose quartz is used throughout history, we see that rose quartz not only promotes love to and from others, but this stone seems to promote love of self as well.
Because rose quartz is such a powerhouse crystal, we should all carry some in our mojo bag. Your rose quartz will be “on” all the time, as all times are good for love of another and or yourself. If you feel that your stones need to be charged - you can do this by leaving your rose quartz outside, overnight in the moonlight. I love thunder and lightning, so I leave my stones out during rainstorms. They get a good cleansing from the rainwater, and they are charged by the lightening effect upon the atmosphere. Maybe you just want to talk to your stones? Tell them in all different affirming ways that they are strong, love creating crystals.
We have a number of products that feature rose quartz. If you wish to boost your intentions, take a look at our Love Intention Candle.

3 All About Gemstones Gemology at Its Best – Rose Quartz Lore.

To that end, this blog focuses upon making the apple of your eye become your one and only via an Effigy Love Spell. Adding this type of spell to your bag of tricks is a powerful tool. Effigy magic is a type of image or figure magic, and it is one of the earliest types of magic. Drawings, clay or cloth dolls, and sculptures are all a form of image or figure magic. Today if you look up “effigy”, it is mostly associated with negativity or cursing (as with a voodoo doll). But that is not always the case. The goal of image or figure magic is to transfer what is inflicted upon the image to the target of the spell. With this spell, you cause love and desire to be inflicted upon the effigy, and those feelings are transferred to the object of the spell.
Using an effigy, in your spell is form of sympathetic magic. In this kind of magic, an image is used to represent the target of the spell. Here the image is in the form of an effigy. The effigy is in sympathy with the target of the spell. Hence, whatever is inflicted upon the effigy will manifest upon the target. This spell will transfer from the effigy to your object of desire powerful feelings of love.
The following spell is based upon writings taken from The True Black Magic, or as it is known in French, La Véritable Magie Noire Ou Le Secret Des Secrets (The True Black Magic Or the Secret of Secrets). Although attributed to King Solomon, this grimoire is most likely a conglomeration of spells created by many people; it dates back to the 14th or 15th century. Only two original transcripts exist, and they are written in Hebrew. It was Iroé Grego who translated the original manuscript from Hebrew to French. All translations thereafter rely upon Grego’s French translation.
You need the following:
Begin by warming the saucepan. Warm it just enough to melt candle wax.
Take the white candle and, while holding it over the warm saucepan, begin shaving the candle. You want the shaved pieces of candle to fall into the saucepan. The shaved pieces should slowly melt in the warm saucepan.
As the shaved wax is melting, slowly mix in the Dragon Blood, rose petals, licorice root and cinnamon. After these ingredients are mixed into the melted candle, let the wax cool just enough so that it is pliable. You want the wax to cool enough so that you can form it into a shape.
Once the wax is at the point where you can manipulate it, form the warm wax into the shape of a person. This shaped wax represents the object of your desire and is now an effigy.
Let the cool completely. When the effigy is cooled, it will be hard enough so that you can carve into it. Use your carving tool to carve the name of your love interest into the effigy. Now, put the figure down and recite the following:
Now take your effigy and put it into a container with a cover. Hide the container somewhere in your home (under your bed is a great place).
For the next 3, 5, or 7 nights repeat the following:
Take the effigy out of the container, light a pink candle, and recite the above incantation again. Let the pink candle burn out, then place the effigy back into the container and hide it in your home.

We learn to set incremental monetary goals throughout our life; and, as we grow and mature so too do our needs. Hence, the quest for abundance and financial stability seems to become more burdensome year after year. The constant struggle to provide a comfortable life for ourselves and our families is one reason why money drawing spells and rituals are so popular. Another reason these spells and rituals are sought after is because they really do work! We here at Art of the Root want magic to not only provide for you and your family, we want magic to create abundance. It is through comfortable abundance that you will be able to comfortably enjoy the spoils of life.
A favorite ritual tool for manifesting money is to use Money Soap. While there are lots of recipes for making money drawing soap, ours is tried and true. Without a doubt, it is one of our most popular products! In our Money Soap we use herbs like chamomile, alfalfa, allspice and others. Wonderfully fragrant essential oils like bayberry and vetiver, just to name a few, work together and are geared toward helping to manifest abundance and prosperity.
Like any magical tool, Money Soap is believed to enhance the power of your intentions. Each herb and oil used in the soap is associated with money, abundance and or prosperity. When it comes to money soap, the goal is to help your spirit align with the energy of abundance. Not only do the herbs and oils in the soap, all of which are related to financial abundance, help to draw in money, but the very act of cleansing does too. It is important to recognize that cleansing rituals, in general, have a profound effect on your state of mind. Cleaning in general helps to dispel any negativity that may be inhibiting you in the accomplishment of your goals. A ritual soap or bath cleanses the body, mind and spirit. Ritualistically washing your body with money soap helps you focus on your goals and encourages you to produce positive thoughts and energies.
Lots of people use money soap every day, while others prefer to use it only in a structured ritual or spell. Even if you use money soap every day as your regular cleanser, you can perform a money soap spell. Below you will find step by step instructions on how to Perform a Money Soap Spell.
You will need to following:
Two Large Bowls;
A strainer (like a pasta strainer);
Two green chime or votive candles
Money Soap or Money Oil
2 Tablespoons of each of the following dried herbs: Chamomile, Bay Leaves, Mint & Fenugreek
4-6 cups of water & in a pot large enough to simmer the water and herbs.
Place the pot of water on the stove. Bring the heat up enough so the water starts to lightly simmer. Now, slowly combine the herbs, and add them to the simmering water. Let the herbs gently simmer for about 15 minutes (a little longer is OK too).
When the herbs are done simmering, carefully strain them from the water and place the strained herbs in one of your bowls. Set this aside. Next, place each candle on the opposite sides of your tub or shower. One should be placed near your feet and one should be placed near your head.
Get the two bowls and fill the empty one with warm bath water. The other has the simmered herbs in it.
Light your two candles and enter the tub. Take the soap and gently mix into the bowl with bath water. Don’t overdo it: it’s not necessary. If you don’t have Money Soap, use Money Drawing Oil. Just add about 8 to 10 drops to your bowl of water.
Beginning at your feet, gently wash yourself with the soapy water and work the lather up your body all the way to the top of your head. As you do this, state your intentions, say a prayer or read Psalm 23 out of the bible.
Now, take the bowl with the simmered herbs and repeat the exercise, starting at your feet. Wipe the lather off your body with the herbs until you get to the top of your head.
Now you are fully cleansed. Exit the tub, do not dry off. Let yourself air dry completely. The ritual is done.
Begin with great preparation. First, choose whether you want the circle inside or out. Now, after you determine where to cast the circle, start cleansing. This might involve smudging the chosen area with sage or performing a purification ritual. Do what feels right. After the area is cleansed, gather any tools or items you want in the circle. You might have an athame (ritual knife), wand, or some candles. Take a moment to ground yourself and connect with the Earth's energy. This can be done through deep breathing, visualization, or meditation. Center your focus and intention on the upcoming ritual.
Begin marking the circle. To do this, start at the top of where the circle will be and walk clockwise around space. As you walk, visualize a circle of energy being created as you move. Some witches use a ritual tool, such as an athame or wand, to trace the circle's boundary physically or symbolically, in the air or on the ground.
After a circle is cast, many witches will call in and invoke the energies and spirits associated with the four cardinal directions along with their elements. This is called “Calling the Quarters.” Often, this is done by facing each direction, and then calling upon the corresponding element, while welcoming its presence and blessings. The directions and their elements are as follows: North/Earth, East/Air, South/Fire, and West/Water. Calling the Quarters is a ritual in itself, and is intended to cleanse, protect, and ask for help within the circle.
After the circle is cast and the quarters have been called, it is time to state your intentions. This might be done through words spoken aloud, in the form of prayers or affirmations.
Now it is time to perform the ritual or magical work within the confines of the circle. Witches might engage in spellcasting, divination, meditation, or any other magical practice. At this point, it is imperative that energies and intentions are focused on the desired outcome.
After the ritual or magical work is completed, it is important to close the circle, release the energy, and dismiss the invoked spirits. To do this, walk counterclockwise around the circle, while visualizing the energy dissipating, and thanking the invoked energies or spirits for their presence.
Finally, take a moment to ground yourself. Release excess energy and any residual effects of the ritual. Do this through deep breathing, visualization, or other grounding techniques like standing on the earth barefoot.
One last tidbit - often witches practice in “3’s.” What is The Power of the number Three?
The premise of the “Power of Three” in numerology states that when things come in “3’s” they have a greater impact or significance. The number “3” is considered a powerful and magical number. It is associated with creativity, expression, communication, harmony, and manifestation. Wiccan and Pagan Beliefs hold the number “3” with special regard.
The concept of the Power of Three, in Wiccan and Pagan tradition, often refers to the principle that whatever energy or intention one sends out into the universe, that same energy or intention will be returned to the sender threefold. Witches are keenly familiar with this premise. Hence, witches know that whatever intention is put into the universe, whether positive or negative, that same energy will come back with three times the intensity. Ideally, this concept promotes ethical behavior with the responsible use of power.
Remember, these steps are a general guideline. Practices may vary among different witches or traditions. Just because something is different does not mean it is wrong. Respect others while following your own intuition, beliefs, and any specific instructions provided by your chosen tradition or practice.

The Rose, with its beauty and alluring fragrance, is at the top of our list. Since ancient times Roses have been prized for their magical abilities when it comes to procuring love. Believed to have originated in Persia, Roses have made their way around the world. Roses are associated with the love Goddess Aphrodite. Legend has it that Cleopatra used Rose petals in her baths to entice Mark Antony. The Romans would crown brides and grooms with wreaths of Roses. During the Middle Ages, Roses took on symbolic meanings of chivalry and love. Roses are a common ingredient in love philters.
Roses have magical properties that draw in love, boost desire, and help with emotional healing. Their thorns represent the true might of the Goddess and, at the same time, her inherent beauty. It is believed that Roses magically open communication and promote deeper connections. Roses are also known to help to awaken oneself to compassion and empathy. Additionally, Roses heal tensions, and encourages passion between two people.
Lavender, derived from the Latin "lavare" (to wash), has been used in love magic for centuries. In love magic, Lavender attracts love and can increase passion. It also has a wonderful ability to promote healing between people, making it one of the most effective herbs for reconciliation magic. It also promotes friendship and harmony. So, if you find yourself and your partner simply not getting along, Lavender will help to bridge relationship differences and deepen connections.
Considered to be one of the most sensual of all flowers. Jasmine has been associated with love and sensuality in numerous cultures throughout history. In love magic, it is believed to not only attract love, but also to promote seduction. In rituals where one is trying to seduce another, you almost always will find Jasmine. Jasmine is also quite effective in lust, compelling and binding spells, so be careful what you ask for!
Vervain, also known as verbena, has a history of sacred and practical use that dates back to the ancient Greeks and Romans. Druids held Vervain as one of their most sacred herbs. Vervain is one of my favorite herbs and often does not get enough credit when it comes to the power it has in love magic. Like Rose, Vervain is also dedicated to the Goddess Venus. During the Middle Ages, Vervain was considered to be a powerful love magic herb. Some popular “love” related uses of Vervain is for attraction, and to foster new love. I particularly like it for “drawing in” a new love interest. Vervain does have protective qualities too, so if you find yourself in a position where there is a challenger to your current relationship and you want to ensure your relationship stays strong, bring out the Vervain!
Although it is widely recognized for its medicinal uses, Black Cohosh has its place in magic too. Black Cohosh is particularly useful to those who practice American folk magic. Native to North America, Black Cohosh has a history of use among indigenous peoples, including the Cherokee and Algonquian tribes. Medicinally, it was to treat women’s issues and, thus, is a great herb to use to enhance feminine energy. I like to use Black Cohosh in times when one needs to find the courage to put themselves out there. Placed in or near the bed, it can encourage lust. It can also be added to poppets and used in love sachets.
When it comes to the realm of love magic, nature has always played a key role. These five fantastic love herbs—Rose, Lavender, Jasmine, Vervain, and Black Cohosh—can be used together or used on their own. Each brings its own unique magical properties and are powerful allies in love spells and rituals. Like all herbs used in magic, their potency can vary from person to person and can be worked differently from spell to spell. Get to know them and you can discover how each of them work for you.
]]>Vervain targets lots of different intentions, including love, protection, purification, healing, and luck. With so many purposes, it is no wonder that vervain has been a witch's staple for centuries.
The History and Folklore of Vervain
Modern witches often associate vervain with the Druids. However, its magical uses date back much further. The ancient Egyptians believed vervain sprang from the tears of Isis as she cried over the death of her beloved, Osiris. The Romans, Greeks, Celtic Druids and Worshippers of Thor (in Scandinavia) all considered vervain to be a holy plant. Barbi Gardiner in her blog post, Blue Vervain: The Hidden Aspects Of A Magical Medicinal Herb, she writes, “The name Verbena means “altar plant,” and it was used as an altar herb by the Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks. Known as a holy herb it was burned in Roman temples and scattered on altars, while their soldiers carried sprigs of vervain as protection.” Some myths suggest vervain was carried by Roman soldiers to foster peace among enemies. Legend states that if a drink made with vervain is shared between enemies, friendlier relations are possible.
The famous Roman naturalist, Pliny the Elder, describes the magical uses of Vervain in great detail. In his book, Natural History, he writes:
“With this the table of Jupiter is swept, and homes are cleansed and purified. There are two kinds of it; one has many leaves and is thought to be female, the other the male, has fewer leaves. Some authorities do not distinguish these two kinds . . . since both have the same properties. Both kinds are used by the people of Gaul in fortune-telling and in uttering prophecies, but the Magi especially make the maddest statements about the plant: that people who have been rubbed with it obtain their wishes, banish fevers, win friends, and cure all diseases without exception. . . . They say too that if a dining couch is sprinkled with water in which this plant has been soaked the entertainment becomes merrier.”
By the Middle Ages, Vervain had become the “official” herb of English apothecaries and was used to treat numerous physical ailments. Vervain was used to treat issues pertaining to the digestive system, the lungs, sexual issues, and even as a disease preventative. In addition to health uses, vervain was, and still is used in magical rituals and spells. Magical uses of vervain target healing, luck, love, and protection of all kinds. Protection from witchcraft, protection against snake bites, and protection from evil spirits, are just a few of vervain’s magical uses.
Wilfred Bosner describes an old charm for nightmares that featured the use of vervain as a form of protection. According to the charm, vervain strung about the neck or drunk prior to going to bed could prevent dreaming. Another example includes one mentioned by Grillot de Giviry in his book, Witchcraft, Magic & Alchemy he writes, “To gain the love of a person, rub your hands with the juice of vervain and touch the man or woman you wish to inspire to love.”
Magical Properties of Vervain
As we have explored, vervain has been used for a variety of magical and ritual purposes throughout history. It continues to be a well-loved and common ingredient in most witches’ cupboards. So let’s take a moment to break down all the ways it can be used in your favorite spells and rituals.
Raven Kaldera describes the perfect culmination of vervain’s multitude of magical properties. In her book, The Northern Shamanic Herbal. She Writes,
“An all-purpose powerful herb for protection, exorcism of spirits, vision work, healing, peacefulness and, (should you want it) vows of chastity. Vervain was used for dream magic, and Druids made their holy water with it. It is associated with opals, agates, and also bards and skalds, as it aids in their performance, As such, it could be associated with the rune Os. Swordsmiths quenched their blades in vervain water in order to strengthen the iron, so vervain is a good blessing for black-smiths and weapon-makers, and it could be rubbed onto weapons to prevent breaking."
It’s important to note that the use of vervain in the magical arts can vary not only by one’s intentions but also by specific traditions and beliefs. When working with vervain, I always suggest letting the herb guide you. Try meditating with it close to you. Simply hold it in your hand and ask it how it wishes to work for you. This may sound silly, but vervain is one of those herbs that truly can help you manifest. Take your time, give it a try, and let us know how it works. Good Luck Witches!

Not all thought in Ancient Greece was progressive. With regard to the treatment of women, the Ancient Greeks were hardly modern. Women played a submissive role; they were largely dependent upon the will of men. Women were permitted to manage the house, raise children, and fulfill their “domestic responsibilities.” In essence, women were confined to the home. There was, however, one exception. The female courtesan was permitted to be beautiful, to leave her house, and to enchant men as she wished. What’s a courtesan, you ask? She was a prostitute. In Ancient Greek life, the courtesan had a different job description than the housewife. The courtesan was a professional enchantress, witty, and ambitious. Her sole job was to charm the male élite by whatever means necessary.
If you were a woman living in Ancient Greece and not a prostitute, it was a rare occasion when you were allowed to exit the home and venture out into the world. When a woman did leave the house, she had to fully cover her head and face with a veil, she had to be careful to not look men in the eye, and she was not permitted to participate in public life. Women were not allowed to vote, or to own land. They were seen as more of a commodity to be traded, rather than human. Women were traded between families for the sheer purpose of sealing deals and sustaining patriarchal traditions. The Ancient Greek society of men segregated women into a never-ending loop of doing as she was told.
How, then, with all the restrictions on movement, dress, and action, did women survive in Ancient Greece? I would like to believe it was magic, of course! While stuck in the home, with her herbs and household items, we can imagine how women incorporated the practiced magic. The practice of magic then, as it is now, was a bit of freedom and self-empowerment. Let’s take a journey back in time via a few ancient spells!
Although the spells recorded by ancient Greeks were written by men, the practice of magic was utilized throughout the Greek population. In fact, archeology suggests that the practice of magic was thriving in the ancient world. Both the Ancient Greeks and Egyptians believed in the power of rituals, spells, incantations, and spiritual practices. The ancient Greeks and Egyptians would commonly invoke deities and other spiritual energies in order to gain power and positive influences. Just like in the practices seen today, these ancient societies sought to manifest their intentions and improve their lives with magic. Magic was infused into their belief systems.
The ancient Greeks employed three distinctive magical practices: the curse tablet, binding spells, and love magic. Sometimes, their approach included elements of all three. In other words, one might choose to bind a lover to them, or another might choose to curse and bind an enemy. In another case, someone could choose to both bind a romantic partner and, at the same time, place a curse on them until they were compelled into action. This meant that these magical practices were not separate, isolated techniques. They could be combined to create specific outcomes.
So, now that we have touched upon the types of magic that were performed, let's look at how these ancient practices are applied to magic today. Keep in mind the following spells are variations of the originals. (To explore the original spells and rituals, see references noted below).
An Ancient Greek Spell Stop Gossip of An Enemy
You will need the following:
Get your piece of lead and place it in front of you. If you are using a conjure oil, like Stop Gossip Oil, dip the tip of the nail or precision scissors into the oil as you carve. Imagine the oil is like ink. As you are carving, continue to dip the carving tool in the oil as if you are applying the oil into your carving. Take your nail and carve the following spell directly into the lead.
"Name of Person I bind his tongue, his soul and the speech he is practicing. I bend, I hide, I bury, I nail down. If they speak any lies, let them seem to be of no account in word or deed. I bind the words from their throat and tongue and silence them."
Next, roll up the sheet. Now, take the nail and hammer it through the folded piece of lead or paper. Put the entire bundle in moving water or bury it in a graveyard.
A Spell to Curse an Enemy
You will need:
-a piece of lead sheeting. (This can easily be acquired through online sources such as Amazon or Home Depot). If this is not feasible, you can simply use parchment paper.
-A pen or tool to carve into the lead (nails and precision scissors work great for lead sheeting).
-A nail and hammer
-A Black Candle
To begin, set up the altar for Hermes. Get a picture of Hermes, you can simply find one on Google and print it out. Place this on your altar. Next, take your honey and fruit and lay it on your plate that you place directly on the altar.
Then get your candle and carve the name of your target into the candle backward. There are two ways to do this, depending on what feels right. You can either carve their name down the candle, beginning at the wick, and carving their name down the candle towards the base of the candle. Or, you can write their name up the candle, starting with the last letter of the name and working backward up the candle.
Take a bit of cursing oil and gently rub a few drops in your hand. Hold the candle as if you were pointing it toward yourself. Using your hands, anoint the candle by pushing the oil up the candle, away from your body. When this is complete, take your candle and place it in an appropriate candle holder, and set it on your altar.
Take the lead sheet or piece of paper and carve the following incantation into it. You may want to dip the tip of your carving tool into the Cursing Oil each time you complete a few words as if you are using the oil as ink.
"I Bind Name of Target, who is General Description of target (here write some details about them i.e., son of so and so) I bind the soul, the work, the life, the hands, and the feet. Of all these I bind and if he utters a harsh word about me, may his tongue be stabbed. May everything he does be lost, stripped away, and destroyed. I bind all these to Hermes the Restrainer."
Light the candle. Roll the sheet of lead or paper up and hammer a nail in it. Gently hold the lead to the flame and repeat the following
"I bind Target’s Name to Hermes the Restrainer, their tongue, the mind, their soul, their life."
When the candle completely burns out, take all the remains of the spell except the picture of Hermes, and bury it in a graveyard.
A Love Spell to Compel a Person to You
You will need the following:
To begin, carve the name of your love interest into the candle. Then anoint the candle with Goddess of Love Oil, making sure you draw the oil up the towards the wick. Place the candle in an appropriate candle holder and place it in the center of your fire-safe plate. Surround the candle with your cut fruit.
Get your piece of parchment paper and write out the following petition:
"Name of Person, may you be sent to me to fulfill my commands. Let Name of Person love with me with a divine indelible love."
Light the candle. After the candle is lit, gently pour the honey onto the fruit and sat the following,
"Name of Person, may you ignite with sweet passion."
Now, take your piece of parchment paper and burn it in the flame and recite the following:
"May your heart and soul burn for me."
A Spell to Bind a Lover
You will need the following items:
Begin by taking you piece of parchment paper and write the following:
"Seize Name of Person and lead them to me, loving me with mad desire. Bind he/she with shackles, Do not allow Name of Person to eat, drink, sleep or laugh, but make Name of Person leave behind any other until he/she comes to me."
Melt both candles until the wax is turned into a liquid. Let it cool until it is malleable. Then make two wax figures. One that represents your love interest and one that represents you. As you mold the figure add a few drops of love binding oil into the wax figure that represents your lover interest. Once the figures are formed, mold them together so they are embracing each other. Take your parchment paper and wrap it around the embracing wax figures. Stick this in a clay pot and bury it in a graveyard.

]]>First, let’s explore different ways that Dirt is used in the practice of Hoodoo. After which we have real spells, that use dirt, for fidelity, protection success and cursing.
The dirt from a specific location links the practitioner to the type of spiritual energy generated at that location. Hoodoo practitioners take dirt from a specific place, believing that the energy from that place is channeled into their spell. Locations such as graveyards, churches, and banks are believed to hold significant magical power. For example, church dirt offers blessings and spiritual protection, bank dirt is used to draw in prosperity and abundance, dirt from a courthouse is used to influence court proceedings, and dirt taken from a crossroads might be used as an offering, to break curses or to remove obstacles. In Hoodoo, dirt connects spiritual forces, nature and magic. When used in a spell or ritual, the practitioner connects with the energy of the dirt, in an effort to get the desired outcome.
Talia Felix writes the following from her book Conjuration: Hoodoo Spells from 1800 to 1920,
“...dirt, in particular, was not seen as powerful unless it was taken from a specific location like the meeting point between the shore and the water or from the center of a crossroads”.
The use of Graveyard Dirt in the practice of Hoodoo comes from African spiritual practices. According to Jeffery E. Anderson, in his book Conjure in African American Society,
“One of the most influential forms of African Charms were the minkisi of the Kongo. Manufactured by magicians, minkisi were positive beings inhabited to protect their owners from spirit-induced -induced illness. Like Gregory bags, gbo, and related northern West African Charms, they frequently took the shape of packets. Unlike charms of other areas, however, minkisi often incorporated the spirits of ancestors in the form of dirt from graveyards…..”.
Dirt from a graveyard has an undeniably strong connection to the spiritual world as well as to the natural world. Hoodoo practitioners harness the magical properties of graveyard dirt, in spells and rituals seeking to connect spirits and ancestors from the other world to the real world. Used in a variety of spells, including protection, cursing and love, graveyard dirt seeks to gain the favor and power of long past spirits to help manifest intentions.
Goofer dust is used in different types of spells. It is a mixture of different ingredients (depending upon the intention), with dirt from a specific grave. It is believed that dirt from graves of criminals and “bad men” has certain powers, while dirt from the graves of “good people” has other powers. Commonly used in cursing, hexing, or “crossing” spells, Goofer Dust also sometimes used in protection and banishing rituals. Often times Goofer dust includes crushed insects, small reptiles, herbs, or powdered minerals.
Personal Concerns
In Hoodoo, personal concerns are items from a specific person, like hair, nails, bodily fluids, or clothing that link that target to the practitioner. This idea comes from the concept that an individual leaves behind their energy in their personal concerns. One type of personal concern used in Hoodoo is Dirt left by the footprints of a certain person.
Referred to as “Foot Track Magic”, the dirt from where one stepped is used to target that person. These “tracks” are collected for either beneficial or negative magical intentions. To perform Foot Track Magic, a practitioner must collect the dirt or dust from where their target walked. Then that dirt is used to connect to the target and, depending on the intention, the dirt is incorporated into the spell.
Identifying where someone will walk in the future is another form of Foot Track Magic. When a magical item or substance is placed directly in the path where the target will come into contact with it in the future, the practitioner is Laying Tricks. This type of magic can be used to cause either good or harm to befall the target (Yronwode).
There are as many ways to play tricks with a person’s tracks as there are practitioners. As Via Hedara so eloquently writes in her book, Folkloric American Witchcraft and the Multicultural Experience, A Crucible at the Crossroads,
“Track-Tricks could be the herbs, salt, soil, hair, graveyard soil, nails, thorns, bottles, bags, balls and papers we leave in the tracks of a person, or they could be the tracks collected themselves which were tampered with in some way (being roiled, buried, burned or otherwise sweetened or harmed).

Using the practitioner's inner energy and connection to the spiritual realm, the goal in compelling magic is for the practitioner to create a metaphysical connection that affects another’s feelings and intentions. One of the more popular methods of compelling love magic is that of sympathetic magic. Sympathetic magic involves the idea that similar things or actions have a connection. This connection enables a practitioner to influence outcomes. This kind of magic works on the premise that one can get a desired effect by imitating that effect, or by using certain types of objects that are symbolically associated with the desired effect. A classic example of sympathetic magic is that of the love charm. Love charms include personal items, specific actions, incantations, or symbols related to love.
Warning, there are implications to this type of magic. I urge you to not infringe on another person’s boundaries. Always keep this fact in mind.
The following two charms are variations taken from George Lyman Kittredge’s Witchcraft In Old and New England, written in 1929
You will need the following:
Begin by carving the name of your target into the candle. Start carving at the bottom of the candle and carve up, toward the wick. After the name is carved into the candle, anoint it with Come to Me Oil.
Very carefully, take one of the needles and push it through the candle. Then, on opposite side of the candle, push the other needle through. The needles will cross over each other.
Put the candle in an appropriate candle holder. Put the holder with the candle on a fire-safe plate. Suround the candle with the herbs. I like to sprinkle the herbs around the candle in a clockwise manner.
Focus on your love, and when you are ready, recite the following:
It is not this candle alone I stick
But (the name of target) heart I mean to prick
Whether he be sleep or wake
I’d have him come to me to speak.
After the candle has completely burned, take the needles out of the candle. You will tie the two needles together with the red string. Make sure the sharp end of one placed next to the eye of the other. Put the tied together needles in the pouch along with the herbs. Keep the pouch hidden (under your mattress is a good place).
Not only is this ritual great for drawing in the one you want, but in my opinion it can be beneficial when you are seeking to reconcile with a lost-lover.
You will need:
Ideally, this spell is performed on a Friday night, when the moon is in the waxing phase. To begin, cut out the shape of a heart from your red felt fabric. Take the three pins and stick them into the red felt so that each pin is facing toward the center of the heart. Now, pour the Dragon’s Blood Oil over the red felt heart. Put the oil saturated heart into your pan or pot. Focus on your love and believe that your love is coming to you. When ready, light the heart and allow it to burn. While the heart is burning, recite the following charms:
Tis not this blood I wish to burn
But (name of target) heart I wish to turn
May he neither rest nor sleep
Til he returns to speak to me
When the heart is fully burned, the spell is complete. Take the remaining ashes and bury them in a churchyard.
This spell will help you create a compelling powder which will draw in your desired lover.
You will need:
Do this spell preferably on a Friday night, when the moon is in the waxing phase. Start by taking a relaxing bath. Add rosewater, rose petals, or anything to the bath that makes you feel sensual and desirable. If you do not have a bathtub, take a shower. In the shower you can sprinkle the rose water and petals on your head before you begin bathing.
After your bath, write the name of the one you yearn for on the paper. When writing, imagine that the universe will send the one that you desire to you. Feel free to write the name in fanciful script.
Next, take the paper and fold it toward your body, then rotate the paper once in a clockwise manner. Do this two more times so that the paper is rotated and folded three times. Before you place this paper into the charm bag, rub the paper on your body. Start at your feet and work your way up toward your head. Now put the folded paper in the charm bag.
Now, get the powdered elecampane, vervain and mistletoe. Add three pinches of each to your charm bag. As you are adding the herbs, believe that the universe exits with you and the one you yearn for in love. Close the charm bag and rub it on your body. Again, begin at your feet and work your way up. Anoint the charm bag with Love and Attraction Oil and pin it to the back of your mattress where it will stay for a week.
Every Friday night, while the moon is in the waxing phase, take the charm bag off of the mattress and repeat the bathing ritual. After your bath, rub the charm bag up your body, anoint it with oil, then pin it to the back of your mattress.
You will perform this ritual on Friday nights, when the moon is in the waxing phase, until you get what you want.

This is the time when we want to perform spells and rituals aimed at new beginnings (in general), new business ventures, new love, and finding a new and better job. During a NewMoon phase, consider performing a Road Opener Spell. You will either need an orange candle, or you can simply work with Art of the Root’s Road Opener Soy Spell Candle.
How to Perform A Road Opener Spell During a New Moon
To perform a Road Opener spell or ritual, write your petition on a piece of parchment paper (or use a brown paper bag if that is all you have). After the petition is complete, fold it in half, being sure to fold the paper towards you with the crease away from you. Now, turn it 90 degrees clockwise and fold it in half again. Make sure the petition is well folded and get it as flat as possible. Put the folded petition on a table or on your altar, and place the Road Opener Soy Candle on a plate. With the candle on the plate, put the plate directly on top of your petition.
When you feel ready, light the candle, and say a prayer or read Psalm 23. When finished, bring your ritual remnants to a crossroads (intersection) or if you prefer, bury them in a potted plant and keep it by your front door.
The time after the New Moon, until the moon is full, we have the Waxing Moon phase. During a Waxing Moon, we want to perform spells and rituals that focus upon growth. Think about growing your finances or deepening the love you feel for your partner. Just as the moon is growing in size, so too do we want our love and money to grow! Whenever your goal is to
increase or enhance, think about performing your ritual during the Waxing Moon phase. While in this Waxing Moon phase, look at Art of the Root’s Abundance Oil and consider using it in candle magic to dress a candle.
How to use Abundance Oil in a Abundance and Prosperity Spell or Ritual:
Abundance Oil is a powerful tool in candle magic. Just get the appropriate color, such as a green candle for money or a pink one for love. Then anoint the candle with Abundance Oil, making sure you draw the oil up the candle and not down. Find some images of the things you desire and paste them onto a piece of paper. Dab each picture with a bit of Abundance Oil. Put the dressed candle in a candle holder and place it on top of your images. The best psalm to read while performing this ritual is Psalm 23. Recite Psalm 23, and don't forget to visualize! Bury your ritual remnants by your front door or in a healthy potted plant near your front door.
The Waning Moon phase is the time immediately after the Full Moon up to the time of the New Moon. During the Waning Moon phase, we perform spells and rituals aimed at lessening, removing and or banishing. This is the phase of the moon when we work to decrease harmful and negative influences in the world and in our own life. When you wish to expel unhealthy situations, people or even habits from your life, consider using Art of the Root’s Banishing Candle which was created to help banish negative people and/or situations.
How to perform a Banishing Spell to Remove Negative Energy, Situation, and/or People
You need the following:
- A fresh lemon
- ½ cup salt
- A piece of parchment paper or brown paper bag
- A pen
- A Banishing Soy Candle
- A firsafe plate
To begin, get your paper and write what you wish to banish three times. Next, get the lemon and cut it in half. Take the juice of the lemon and squeeze it over the paper in a circular motion. Do this in a counterclockwise manner. As you do this, state exactly what you wish to banish a total of 3 times. Fold the paper in half, making sure you are folding away from your body. Turn the paper 90 degrees in a counterclockwise manner and fold the paper again. Do this 2 more times.
Now, place the paper flat on your altar or table. Get a fire-safe plate and put the Banishing Candle in the middle of the plate. Take your salt and place it around the bottom of the candle. When ready, light your candle, state your intentions, and say a prayer or read Psalm 125.
The Full Moon phase calls for spells and rituals aimed at serious manifesting. When you desire to bring a situation to fruition and need that extra boost of power for critical situations which might involve finances, love, healing, or success, look to performing your ritual during the Full
Moon phase. Art of the Root’s Manifestation Mini Spell Kit for Goals, Dreams, Aspirations and Wishes is perfect to use during the Full Moon.
How to perform a manifestation ritual with Art of the Root’s Manifestation Mini Spell Kit for Goals, Dreams, Aspirations and Wishes.
Start by writing your petition on a piece of parchment paper(use a plain brown paper bag if you do not have parchment paper). In the petition, write your goals, dreams, aspirations, and what you wish to manifest. Write in a direct and clear manner, and as you are writing, imagine that you already have what you seek. After the manifestation petition is written, take the paper and fold it in half. Be sure to fold the paper towards your body, with the crease away from your body. Then turn the paper 90 degrees, clockwise, and fold it in half a second time. Make sure the petition is well-folded and flat. Now, take a few drops of the Manifestation Oil and rub it around the top of the candle and the rim of the tin in a counterclockwise motion (going TOWARD yourself). While dressing the candle with the oil, recite your petition, focus on your wishes, and imagine your life exists with whatever you seek. Place the Manifestation Mini Candle on a plate and put the plate directly on top of the petition. Take a deep breath, exhale, and when you feel ready, visualize your manifestations, light the candle, and state your intentions out loud or say a prayer of your choice.

Candles are everywhere. They are so versatile! According to the National Candle Association, humans have used candles since the tenth century BC. That is when the ancient Egyptians made wicks from reeds, and then soaked them in a flammable material, like melted animal fat before lighting. These first “candles” may have looked more like torches, and they were used to provide light. Today, candles are used not only for light, but also for ambiance, scent, to set a mood, or in the practice of your craft. It should be no surprise then, that we here at Art of the Root love candles and we love Candle Magic! Not only do we make candles, but we work with them too. Because there are so many ways to incorporate candles into your practice, we get lots of questions about how to use them. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about candles.
We begin with the basics. What is Candle Magic? Candle Magic is the use of candles to help turn your dreams into reality, and to help manifest your intentions. Whether candles are used in a spell or ritual, placed on your altar, or even put on a birthday cake, Candle Magic is at work. Fire, color, scent, and botanicals all work together in Candle Magic to connect the spiritual realm to the natural world. Thereby creating powerful magic that tells the universe you mean business.
At Art of the Root, we believe that the most commanding are made with the purest ingredients. The purer the ingredients used to make the candle, the more powerful the magic candle will be. That is why we use all-natural soy wax and cotton wicks to make our magic candles. It is worth noting that soy is not the only natural wax. Waxes, like bee’s wax, or wax made from palm or coconut are also natural waxes, and they may be suitable for making magic candles. Maybe most importantly, whenever possible, remember to avoid candles made with synthetic wax, like Tropsh/GLT and Alpha Olefin. Also, and for a variety of reasons, like smoke, benzene and respiratory discomfort, paraffin wax, which is a petroleum-based wax, should be avoided.
A naturally colored candle, that is made with all-natural wax and a cotton wick is suitable to use in any Candle Magic spell or ritual. Sometimes, however, “fixed” candles are preferred. A “fixed” candle is created to be used for a specific or “fixed” purpose. Magick candles become “fixed” by adding the purposeful magic properties of colors, crystals, and botanicals to the candle. For example, a “fixed” candle intending to help manifest romantic love might have love-related herbs, like rose petals and cherry bark, incorporated into wax that is dyed red. It probably will have a delicate floral scent, and it might be adorned with rose quartz or another stone associated with romantic love, like red jasper. Often used in conjunction with a spell or ritual, “fixed” candles are intended to burn for a certain number of days.
The two questions we hear most frequently are, “Can I extinguish the flame on my magic candle?”, and “Can I re-light my magic candle?” The answers to both questions are “Yes”, but with cavoites. There are specific stipulations and conditions that must be adhered to when extinguishing a flame during the course of a spell or ritual.
Each of our 9-ounce candles have a burn time of 50+ hours, and our 7-day candles have a burn time of many days. Furthermore, for the cleanest burn and safety reasons, we recommend not letting any candle burn continuously for more than 4 hours. Practically, and without regard for our burning instructions, most people have schedules that do not permit them to stay home for days on end, and we know it’s not safe to leave a burning candle unattended. So, what’s a witch to do?
When necessary, a witch should extinguish the flame on a magic candle with a candle douser or by another means which smothers the flame (like putting a fire safe plate on top of the candle vessel), taking care to never blow-out the flame. Blowing out a magic candle is akin to blowing away your intentions. It’s just something that witches do not do, especially while performing a spell or ritual.
Go ahead and re-light your magic candle when you’re ready. Ideally, a wooden match is used to light and to re-light a magic candle, but a lighter is fine, if that is all you have. Each time you light and re-light the candle, be sure to focus on your intentions. Envision your desires as if they already exist in the real world. You may want to say a prayer when lighting and re-lighting. Remember to do whatever you feel best focuses your mind, body, and spirit upon your intentions.
Another question repeatedly posed to us by our customers is, “Can I burn a magic candle if I do not practice magic?” or, “Do I have to perform a spell or ritual in order to burn a magic candle?” Our response to these questions is always, “Of course not!” While lots of people use our candles while practicing Candle Magic, there are lots of people who just love the fragrance and beauty of magic candles. (And if you happen get a little love, money, or luck no one is complaining!).
Look, it is just a fact of life. You might want to make your own candle. Or there may come a time when you need a candle for a specific intention, like love, money, luck, or power, and you just don’t have the time, or you can’t go out and buy one. As you are choosing candle dye color, or as you are looking at your candle collection, which color should you choose?
Just like certain herbs are associated with specific intentions, and just like certain scents are associated with distinct feelings and intentions, almost every color is associated with an intention. Our best suggestions for color meanings are as follow:
WHITE – Remember, a white candle can be used for any spell or ritual. Think of a white candle like a wild card; it can be used as a substitute for any color when needed. Use a white candle for rituals related to purification, cleansing and purity.
BLACK – Use a black candle in rituals related to protection. Whether you are protecting your mind, body or soul, or for the protection of another, use a black candle. We also like to use black candles in rituals related to uncrossing or reversing.
BLUE – We love to use blue candles in matters related to the cosmos, like moon magic. Rituals that promote peace, harmony and calmness also use blue candles.
PURPLE – Purple candles mean power! Use a purple candle in commanding spells, controlling spells or when you need to assert your personal power. Use purple in matters related to psychic powers and intuition.
PINK – Self-love, taking care of yourself, and playful love are all related to the color pink. Use a pink candle in matters of the heart that do not concern passionate love.
RED – We are talking about love, passion and sex with red candles! The color red is associated with romantic, passionate love. Think of red roses.
GREEN – Green is the color of money, and green candles are used in spells and rituals concerning financial wellness, getting and growing your money, and all-around financial abundance. Rituals that focus on money-related matters are typically referred to as money drawing spells.
GOLD – Gold candles are used in matters related to luck, especially monetary luck. When seeking to manifest wealth and riches, use a gold candle.
YELLOW – Happiness, friendliness, joy, success and positivity are all tied to the color yellow.
ORANGE – When seeking to harness the power of the law of attraction and when manifesting dreams and goals, use an orange candle.
Some witches may have color associations that are different than ours, and that is OK!
Now that you have the basics of Candle Magic under your belt get to work and start manifesting your dreams. Blessings!
]]>In folk magic, Conjure and Hoodoo Oils are used to create a channel between the earthly and spiritual realms. This connection helps to manifest your intentions. That is why it is so important to work with potent oils. With so many Hoodoo and Conjure Oils on the market today, how are you supposed to choose the best? Look for oils made with herbs, essential oils, roots, and minerals. Real, fresh ingredients make powerful oils. Whether you want to draw in love, money, abundance, compel others, open new doors, or protect against negativity, there are oils to help you work your magic. Below are my favorite ten hoodoo and conjure oils that everyone practitioner needs.
Van Van Oil
Believed to have originated in Algiers, Louisiana, Van Van Oil, also known as Lousiana Van Van Oil, is considered to be an “original” Hoodoo Oil. Primarily used for clearing away negativity (evil eye), and removing obstacles, Van Van Oil also helps to draw in luck and good fortune. Use Van Van Oil when you feel stuck or stagnant. Van Van Oil works by creating luck and clearing negativity from the environment, and, in turn, new positive energy is free to flow in toward you. Traditional Van Van Oil includes Lemon Grass, Palmarosa and Citronella. You might also see Van Van Oils with eucalyptus, pine, bergamot or lemon balm.
Use Van Van Oil to anoint your body, anoint jewelry, add a few drops in the bath or in the heel of your shoe. Traditionally, Van Van Oil is anointed on doorways, business cards, resumes, applications, bank statements and/or cash registers. Use on candles, mojo bags, spell papers, or your magical tools to help amplify your intentions and the power of your rituals and spells. I like to use yellow, white or green candles when working with Van Van Oil.
Van Van Oil Ingredients:
Palmarosa,
Lemon Grass,

Money Drawing Oil
Money does not buy happiness, but it might help! Money Drawing Conjure Oil is a favorite oil used to draw in money and financial abundance. Think of Money Drawing Oil as an attraction oil. Use it in spells and rituals where you want to attract wealth and prosperity. Whether you want a raise, a new job, a reduction in debt, or when you find yourself in a financial pinch, Money Drawing Oil is the “go to” oil when performing spells or rituals related to your overall financial picture.
There is no wrong way to use Money Drawing Oil. Anoint cash in your pocket, cash registers, important financial documents, applications and bank statements. Rub down your front door, anoint Mojo bags, talismans, lucky charms and candles with Money Drawing Oil. Create a mojo bag that contains cinnamon, nutmeg, flax seeds, chamomile, and a lodestone. Every Thursday, anoint the bag with Money Drawing Oil, and I always have the bag with me. In candle magic, apply Money Drawing Oil to green or gold candles. Because this is such a popular hoodoo oil with so many uses, there are lots of good, solid Money Drawing Oil recipes. Below are some of my favorites.

Use Fiery Wall of Protection Oil to ward off negative influences and to provide a protective barrier against bad intentions thrown you way. Think of Fiery Wall of Protection Oil as a metaphysical shield against harm, ill wishes, and/or psychic attacks. Manifest a powerful protective aura by anointing yourself, objects close to you, or your physical space with Fiery Wall of Protection Oil. Whenever you feel thrust into a negative situation or environment, anoint your body, doorways, windows, or personal belongings to create virtual protective armor and safeguard against ill will and unwanted forces. In the practice of candle magic, use a red candle with this oil. Finally, feel free to use Fiery Wall of Protection Oil in conjunction with other oils that focus on protection, like St. Michael’s Oil. Love & Attraction Oil
What is as sought after as Money? Of course, Love is! In rituals and spells that are geared toward matters of the heart, Love & Attraction Oil is my favorite. Use this oil to draw in new love, encourage commitment between two people, or to intensify romantic or sexual energy in your relationship. Even though its most often used in love spells, Love & Attraction Oil is also used in conjunction with reconciliation spells, or as a fragrant reminder of self-love and inner beauty. There are countless Love & Attraction Oil recipes on the market so I always encourage those to pick the ones that have herbs and oils that speak to them. My personal favorite Love & Attraction Oil recipes are made with rose, jasmine, orris root, and loveage which is a great combination. There are countless ways to work with a Love & Attraction conjure oil. You can anoint your body, your front door, candles, jewelry, or talismans and draw love into your life. Try dabbing some on before heading out on a date. Love & Attraction Oil is a “must have” on every altar. Use with pink candles when focusing on relationships, or use with red candles when you’re looking for fiery passion and romance. Here a couple of my favorite recipes.

Road Opener Oil
Break obstacles and open doors to new opportunities and fresh starts with Road Opener Oil. I recommend this oil to those who want to start something “new”, like a new business venture. There are lots of Road Opener Oil recipes, but one thing every Road Opener Oil should contain is Abre Camino. Literally, Abre Camino translates to "Road Opener" in English. Different herbaceous plants are interchangeably called Abre Camino. However, the most common is the herbaceous plant Eupatorium villosum which is a perennial native to South America and parts of Florida. In the Florida Keys this plant is commonly called Thoroughwort. In addition to Abre Camino, Road Opener Oil should contain Lemon, Pine, Bergamot, and Lemongrass. Anoint objects like keys, doorways, and important documents with Road Opener. In candle magic, anoint Road Opener Oil to orange, gold, or yellow candles. To do this, anoint the candle starting in the center of the candle and work your way up the candle, toward the wick. Next, take some of the oil and start in the middle of the candle and work your way down, to the bottom.

Commanding Oil
When asserting authority, looking to gain influence, or simply to compel others to do your will, turn to Commanding Oil. This oil should include herbs associated with domination like calamus root, sweet woodruff, and licorice root. Anoint yourself, personal items, or petitions to assert your will. When you want to persuade and control, Commanding Oil is the “go to” oil. This oil can be applied directly to your target (someone you wish to influence) in a secret manner, or anywhere your target may come into contact with it, like a chair or a doorknob. It can be dabbed onto petitions, talismans, amulets, or roots (such as the High John The Conqueror Root). One technique is to grab some dirt from where your target walked, and mix this dirt with a few drops of Controlling Oil. Then go to where your target dwells and blow the dirt towards the front door. Try adding this oil to a honey pot, or in candle magic, use Commanding Oil with a purple candle.

Protection From Evil Oil
Protect yourself from negative energies, psychic attacks, or spiritual harm with Protection From Evil Oil. Like Fiery Wall of Protection, Protection from Evil creates a shield of spiritual defense to ward off malevolent forces. Protection from Evil Oil can also deter the evil eye, block people who may energetically drain you, and protect you from negative spells, jinxes or hexes. It is also highly effective against those who wish to dominate or control you. Try anointing yourself, talismans, or doorways with Protection Oil from Evil Oil. Use this oil with white or black candles. You can also use with railroad spikes, iron nails or even on a Bible placed near the front door.

]]>We are constantly asked how to use our Bad Ass Bitch Oil. One of our favorite ways is with a good old-fashioned power spell. A power spell is a ritual that is performed with the intention of supercharging your own energy, inner strength, and creativity to help you achieve your goals and break through mental and emotional obstacles. Power Spells can be used for various aspects of your life, such as your confidence, success, protection, love, or any other intention you wish to manifest.
As with all spells, intention, and energy are key. Whether you wish to get a raise, influence others, draw in love or simply have your voice heard and respected, this spell can help you believe in your own inner power, self-confidence, and authority. The most important thing to remember is that your true power lies within. It’s already there waiting for your to let it out.
You will need the following:
To Begin, write out your intention on your piece of parchment 3 times. Turn the paper to the right clockwise 90 degrees, and write your name three times. Lay this flat on your fire-safe plate. Then, on top of your paper, add the bay leaf, followed by your silver dime, and add a pinch of your ginger and clove.
Get your purple candle and anoint it with Bad Ass Bitch Oil. To do this, point the tip of the candle towards your body and then draw the oil up the candle towards your body. Place this in an appropriate candle holder and put it directly on top of your petition, dime, and herbs. When ready, light your candle and state your intention, say a prayer or read Psalm 103.
Allow the candle to burn completely out. Then take your parchment paper and fold it each corner inwards so your bay leaf, dime, and powdered herbs are covered by all four corners of the parchment paper. Once this is done, fold the paper in half, making sure when you make the fold, you are closing it towards your body. Then take your thread and wrap it around the folded parchment paper 9 times and tie it. This should be carried on you, placed on your altar, or hidden under your mattress. You can also simply hide it behind a photograph of yourself that is placed in a frame.

The primary goal of casting circles is to create a sacred and protective space that is separate from the outside world. The circle provides a protective barrier that can prevent negative energy or influences from affecting you and/or your practice. More importantly, it can help you stay focused and undisturbed. Imagine it’s like an invisible container. Within this container, you can raise energy and direct energy to manifest your intentions and goals. The circle also serves as a symbol of the cycle of life, where energy continuously flows and connects to all things.
Before your cast a circle, you need to make sure you are prepared mentally and physically. Make sure you have a space that is free from clutter. After you have determined your area, you then need to perform a cleansing. Cleansing your space is essential as it helps dispel negative energy. Depending on your approach, this can be done with salt, brooms, or incense. Next you need to gather your ritual items. Some of these items can include candles, ritual knives or wands, chalices or offering bowls, and elemental representations like stones or feathers. You can also choose things that are symbolically personal to you. For example, I like to work with seeds and shells. You will also need to take a moment to ground and center yourself. Give yourself some time to calm your mind and release any worries they may be troubling you.
Begin by marking the area of your circle by physically creating a boundary. You can do this in a number of ways. Some people will use rope, stones, salt or symbols. Others will use a wand or athame to define the space symbolically. No matter which approach you choose, you will want to visualize a ring of light or energy forming as you create and move around the perimeter of your circle.
Many practitioners begin the circle in the northern position and then move clockwise. I base the direction I choose to walk on my intentions. If I seek to draw something in, I move clockwise. If I wish to remove or banish something, I move counterclockwise. The energy of your circle is a protective barrier. Try to envision the energy you are casting as forming a protective shield so that within this circle, no harm can come to you. When you step into your circle, this barrier provides you with a safe and calming place to commune and work in the spiritual realm.
When your circle is completed, it’s time to call upon the four elements: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Not only do the four elements empower your workings, but their energy also blesses and protects your sacred space. This is often referred to as Calling on the four Cardinals. These energies or “guardians” serve as protectors and guides. To do this, face each direction and acknowledge their presence and call them down into your circle. You can also place elemental representations at each quarter of your circle; Fire (candles), Water (a bowl of water), Air (incense), Earth (stones), or any other type of representation that feels personal to you. As the elements are invoked or called upon, try to feel their energy filling your sacred space within the circle.
When the circle has been completed and you have called down the four quarters, you will then need to raise the energy. This can be done through dancing, chanting, drumming or singing. When this is done within the circle, energy builds and becomes amplified. This is called raising energy so it can be focused on a specific intention or purpose.
Once you feel the energy has been raised, it’s time to perform your ritual. As you perform your ritual, time to focus on your intentions and visualize your intentions manifesting.
After your ritual is completed, you will need to close the circle. This is done by reversing the steps you made while you were casting your circle. Thank the elemental energies, spirits, and guardians for aiding you in your ritual. Now begin to visualize the energy within the circle. When you feel this is complete, you can exit the circle.

Often, we are asked, What is an Altar? and How do I set up my Altar?
It is my belief that there is no wrong way to set up a witch’s altar. Your altar is just that, yours. You might perform rituals, burn incense, work on spells, or write petitions at your altar. One person might feel that their altar is a very private space, which is not meant to be on display, while you want to showcase your most precious ritual tools, magical herbs and spell candles for all the world to see. Guess what? Neither person’s altar is wrong!
When creating your own altar, you need to think about what is important to you and to your spiritual practices before beginning to build it. Consider your altar as your most sacred space, which will be your magical workspace. Begin by asking yourself where in your home is the best place to set up your altar? For example, as soon as you open the front door, do you want everyone who enters your home to be able to see the altar? Or, would you rather keep your spiritual altar private, and only accessible to you and your close inner circle? The placement in your home of the altar is just as important as what will be showcased in the altar. So, you will want to take your time and carefully consider where to put the altar in your home.
Now that you know where in your home the altar is to be located, get your most cherished magical tools, herbs, candles , and anything else important to your spiritual practices. Put all of these things in front of you and close your eyes. Envision these magical elements organized in the most beautiful way possible. Then take that enchanted image from your mind and bring it to life. This will be your altar.
Very often an altar is assembled on top of fabric which we call an altar cloth. Your altar cloth should be personal to you and might include colors, seasons or elements which are significant to you and to your practice. As you bring your altar vision to life, remember that your altar will continually evolve and change. New items will be added, while outdated items, or items that are no longer important to you will be removed.
Throughout the years your altar will evolve as you do. Your beliefs, motivators and intentions will be reflected in your altar. Here are some items that you may want to include in your altar:
Cloth that covers your altar. This Altar Cloth will be of images, colors and fabrics that are significant to you.
Deities or spirits which are important to you. You can show these deities or spirits as pictures, statues, or figurines.
Spell candles, tea lights, or votives in meaningful colors. Candles are an altar favorite! Use candles for atmosphere, for spell work, or any reason that is important to you.
Purify your altar space, enhance focus, and invoke specific energies with incense.
Often altars showcase both masculine and feminine energy. A ceremonial knife or blade used for directing energy, casting circles, or symbolizing masculine energy is called a Athame. A Chalice symbolizes feminine energy. Find an ornate cup or goblet to be your Chalice. The Chalice can be used for holding water or other ritual liquids.
Gather ritual tools used for specific magical purposes. Tools like wands, cauldrons, brooms, and pentacles might be included in your altar set up.
Crystals and gemstones represent energy and intention. Use different stones depending upon your intentions.
Herbs and plants represent nature and are used in spells, potions, or as offerings. Mix it up and use live plants, dried herbs and beautiful flowers as part of your altar.
Divination tools like Tarot cards, runes, pendulums, or scrying mirrors are used for divination and receiving guidance and can be made a part of your altar.
Remember that the items mentioned are just some of the items that might be included in your altar. A witch's altar is a very personal space and will vary from witch to witch depending upon traditions, personal preferences, and specific magical practices. With everything that can be included in an altar, it might seem a bit intimidating to start to build your own. As long as you stay true to your beliefs and preferences, your altar will emerge as your most sacred space where you will feel most comfortable in your spiritual practice.

History is infused with magic. Magic and folk magic practices, spells and rituals have been an integral part of our lives since as long as people have been around. From the shamanic practices to religious rites, magic has helped us to make sense of the world and has empowered us by providing a lens into the unknown and unseen. Magic provides us a means to connect with forces beyond our understanding in a way that helps us deal with our own personal fears, dreams, and goals. Whether its love, money or protection, magic has served to help us manifest our desires in a meaningful way. The art of spell crafting remains an important component in many peoples spiritual practices.
Today, we are going to explore two different spells: a love drawing spell and a money drawing spell. The following spells are based on folk magic traditions. A bit about folk magic. Folk magic is home-cooked magic. It’s personal and informal, but just as powerful as older and more formal methods of spell crafting. Folk magic incorporates many different traditions and can be interchanged in ways that give meaning and power to those who wish to practice it. The most important thing to consider is that it needs to be personal to you. When it comes to casting spells, you should always follow your instincts and allow your practice to unfold in a way that feels comfortable for you. Remember to add your personal touch. You can use anything that feels meaningful to you. This could include incorporating crystals, herbs, photographs, amulets or just about anything you can dream of.
This love spell focuses on drawing in a particular love interest. If you do not have someone in mind, I would skip the “needle” portion of the ritual and keep your intention on simply drawing in your ideal mate.
What you will need:
To begin, get your red candle and on one side of the candle carve the name of your love interest. On the opposite side of the candle, carve your own name. Anoint your candle with your love drawing oil. To do this, point the top of the candle towards your body. Take your oil and anoint the candle by drawing the candle up the candle towards your body. Then take your two needles. Beginning on the side where you carved your own name, insert the candle directly through the candle so it pokes through the name of your love interest. Then turn the candle where your love interest’s name is carved and insert the pin directly towards your name. Place the candle in an appropriate candle hold and place this on top of your fireproof plate. Then take your cinnamon, brown sugar and hemp seeds and sprinkle over the plate around your candle. When ready light your candle and state your intention, say or prayer or read the song of songs from the bible.
When the candle completely burns out, take the needles and place them side to side in opposite directions. In other words, the point of one needle should be next to the eye of the other. Tie the two needles together with your red string. Place these in your pouch and add a pinch of the remaining cinnamon, sugar and hemp seeds (or rose petals)from your plate directly into the pouch. Carry this pouch on you or place it under your mattress. Should you wish to break the spell, simply untie the needles and discard them away from your property.
This is a southern conjure money ritual that is used to draw you towards money, treasure or abundance. Although the original spell calls for rattlesnake root, ginger root can be used as a replacement, and it is just as powerful.
What you need:
To begin, gently boil your root in 2 cups of water. Let it simmer for at least 15 minutes. When cool strain the root out of the water. Pour 1 cup of the water in a bottle and set the other cup aside. Get your Money Drawing Oil and 8-12 drops into the bottle. Close the lid and shake, This mixture will need to sit for 8 days. Make sure you gently shake it each day. In the evening, take your remaining cup of infused water and enter a bathtub or shower. When ready enter the bath and remain in a standing position. Take your cup of infused water and gently rub the water on your body, beginning with the bottom of your feet all work your way up to the top of your head. You can also say a prayer, speak your intention or read Psalm 23. When this is complete, exit the tub and let yourself air dry.
After 8 days, take your bottle of infused water mixture and rub down your entire front door. You can also add a few drops into the heel of your shoes.

Ancient Love Spells for Conjure, Hoodoo, Wiccan & Pagan Rituals
In today’s blog, we are going to add to your repertoire of spells. The first two spells date back to Ancient Magic of the Mediterranean (Greeks & Romans) and traditional European magic.
For Conjure and Hoodoo lovers, our final spell comes from one of the most esteemed Hoodoo literary authors available to us today; Zora Neale Hurston.
Please keep in mind that although these spells can be found in different magical affiliations, you will see similarities, as the basis is the same. That’s the beauty of magic and history… over time, different systems borrow from each other to create a truly unique approach to manifesting successful spells that actually work. The three spells we bring you today are:
These spells, charms, and rituals come from some of our favorite sources such as The Arcana Mundi, and Zora Neale’s, Mules and Men. They are taken from traditional grimoires or historical manuscripts that are widely accepted in the magical community. However, there are some great contemporary sources that are exceptionally well researched and annotated – we feel it is important to include some of these as well.
Be warned! Some of the spells in this blog are a bit darker in nature. If you find them too disturbing or are concerned with the issue of Karma, please just skip over them; there are plenty of others.
It is also important to let you know that many of these spells have been modified from their original source to make them more adaptable to our modern world. As always, we do include the sources for each spell and ritual. We encourage you to go to the original source if our adaptations do not feel right to you, or if you simply wish to gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter. You may want to adjust these for your own spell crafting, and that is perfectly fine as well.
Happy spellcasting!
-AOTR
You will need the following to perform the dominance over a lover spell:
Get a red candle and carve the name of your love interest into the candle with a toothpick or a new nail. Then, carve your own name directly on top of theirs. You may wish to anoint the candle with some conjure oil, but it is not necessary. Light the candle and let the candle drip until there is a soft pool of wax. You are going to have to repeat this in order to get enough wax to create a wax figure.
Create your wax figure in the form of a person (your target), with your target’s hands placed behind their back as if they are tied. Get your 13 pins. You are going to stick these pins into 13 points on the wax figure and state the following out loud for each body part you stick:
“I pick your body part, name of person to make sure that you think of no one but me, your name.”
I would pick the parts of the body that may make obvious sense to you: Brain (mind), eyes, mouth, throat, heart…etc. You get the picture. Then, take a piece of parchment paper and write the name of your target. Below this, write all 13 statements you made while sticking your wax figure. Wrap this around the wax figure. It’s ok if your pins pierce the paper. Get your white thread and wrap it around the wax figure and petition 65 times.
Head to the graveyard with your fresh flowers and look for a grave of a person who had a short life. Bury the wax figure at the foot of the grave and recite the following:
“Fetch name of target. Make name of target love and desire me because I conjure you, Daemon of the Dead, to make you fetch name of target and make name of target join me head to head, lips to lips, body to body, thighs to thighs. Amen.”
Leave your flowers at the head of the grave. (p.92)

You will need the following:
The following spell should be performed on a Friday at midnight during a waxing moon (when the moon phase is turning from a new moon to a full moon). Take burning coals from a hearth fire and place them in a copper vessel. Sprinkle Dragons Blood over them and recite the following:
“Tis not this Dragon’s Blood I mean to burn, but my true love’s heart I wish to turn. May he have no sleep, no rest, nor pleasure see, until he comes back to me. So shall it be!”
Original Source: Gary, Gemma. The Black Toad. Troy Books, 2012.
You will need the following:
Get your 9 candles and carve the name of your love target into each candle three times with the toothpick. When this is complete, get your Van Van Oil and put a few drops on the palms of your hands. Then, slowly draw your oiled hands up the candle from the base of the candle to the wick. Speak your intention out loud each time you do this (for example, “target’s name come back to me.”). Then, take your paper and write their name three times. Place each piece of paper under 3 candles.
Then, place these in a clockwise position on your altar or table. The first group of 3 candles and paper should be placed at the 7th hour, the next grouping should be placed at the 9th hour and the final grouping should be placed at the 11th hour. Start with the 7th hour grouping and light the candles. Call out your targets name with your intention. Wait two hours and then light the second grouping. Call out your targets name with your intention. Wait another two hours. Light your last grouping of candles while calling out your target’s name with your intention. Allow the candles to burn out on their own. (p. 276)
For a longer ritual, you can perform this over three days. If you need to put the candles out, do not blow them out, use a candle snuffer or a fire safe dish and smother them so as to not blow away your intentions. On the final day, let all the candles burn out on their own. When the ritual is complete, bury the items near your front door. If this is not feasible, bury the remains in a pot of flowers and keep it near your front door.

]]>In modern times, it's common to find mugwort in witches' cupboards, and understandably so. It serves a multitude of purposes in spells and spiritual practices. The plant is regularly incorporated in spells and rituals to enhance dreams, establish contact with other spiritual realms, bolster intuition, dispel negative energy, and protect against harmful influences.
When people think of mugwort, they often envision medieval witches accused of cursing their neighbors, consorting with devils, and engaging in other dark practices. However, the history and significance of mugwort extend far beyond these connotations. This herb has been celebrated across various cultures for its medicinal benefits, association with lunar cycles, and capacity to enhance spiritual experiences long before it was linked with witchcraft.
Named after the goddess Artemis, mugwort was integral to the ancient Greek understanding of lunar cycles, fertility, divination, and protection. The Romans similarly revered mugwort, with soldiers and travelers often placing it into their shoes for safety and to ward off exhaustion. The Chinese revered this herb for its perceived ability to repel malevolent spirits, prevent diseases, and bestow blessings in the home. The Anglo-Saxons, too, considered mugwort as one of the "Nine Sacred Herbs," incorporating it into their healing charms and many other spiritual practices.
Despite acquiring a connection with witches and sorcery during the middle ages, mugwort became a widely utilized protective herb. It was commonly hung in homes to defend against witches and evil spirits or placed under doorsteps to deter unwanted visitors. The herb was symbolically linked with strength, as exemplified by the legend that John the Baptiste wore it around his waist to maintain his strength during his travels.
However, during the middle ages, the reputation of mugwort was blemished due to the growing fear and persecution of witches. It was believed that witches used mugwort in their 'flying ointments,' therefore, it was thought to aid in various transformative rituals and could be used for such things as shapeshifting, hedge riding, and other nefarious practices, spells, and rituals.
The modern witch continues to revere mugwort for its many magical properties. Mugwort is associated with the moon, the element of fire, and feminine energy. It’s widely used as a powerful tool for those who wish to connect with their inner wisdom, intuition, and power.
One of mugwort's most well-known magical properties is its ability to enhance dreamwork and intuition. Making mugwort tinctures, dream pillows, or burning some as incense is believed to aid in intuitive practices. When consumed or burned during divination practices such as reading tarot or casting the I-ching, mugwort can sharpen one’s psychic ability and help to facilitate interpretations. A sprig of Mugwort under the mattress is believed to encourage astral projection and lucid dreams.
Mugwort has long been considered a protective herb and is revered for its ability to banish negative energy and ward off evil spirits. It can be burned in the home to banish negative energy, or it can be burned outside the front door to create a protective barrier. Placing a bundle of Mugwort above your front door or windows can prevent negative people from entering the home. A tea made of mugwort can be lightly sprayed on personal objects you value and wish to keep protected.
Mugwort also possesses purifying qualities, both energetically and physically. Witches often incorporate mugwort into rituals for cleansing spaces, altars, tools, and themselves. Burning dried mugwort leaves during a ritual or smudging can help dispel stagnant energy, remove spiritual obstacles, and create a sacred atmosphere.
Mugwort is not just used in magic; it has long been celebrated for its medicinal properties. Mugwort has calming and relaxing properties. It can help relieve stress, tension, and sleep disorders. It can be brewed into teas, added to bathwater, or used in aromatherapy to promote physical and emotional well-being.
Mugwort is often employed in intuition rituals or spells due to its renowned ability to aid in prophetic dreams and intuitive awareness. This particular spell serves as an excellent method for fostering the right mental state to generate meaningful dreams and amplifying your innate intuitive capabilities, This spell is especially effective when seeking answers to specific inquiries.
You will need the following
- A 1/2 cup of Epsom salt or sea salt.
- Two teaspoons Lavender, one teaspoon Sage, one teaspoon Lemon Grass, and one teaspoon Mugwort.
- A Muslin Tea Bag.
- Psychic Intuition Oil or Dream Oil (optional).
- Two Blue Chime or Tea Light.
- A small square piece of paper and a pen.
- A piece of string or thread.
Begin by combining all of your herbs and gently grinding them down. Then take 3/4 of this combination and mix it with your Epsom Salt. Add 4 to 6 drops of Psychic Intuition Oil or Dream Oil directly into the Epsom Salt Mixture.
Next, write out your name three times on your piece of paper, turn the paper 90 degrees (clockwise), and write out your question or intention. Get your two candles and anoint them with your oil. Take your candles and anoint them with your oil.
Run a warm bath and add your Epsom Salt mixture. Place one candle at the head of the tub and one candle at the foot of the top. Under the candle closest to your head place the petition/paper under the candle. Make sure you put the candles in appropriate candle holders.
When ready, light your two candles and enter the bath. When in the bath, focus on letting go of negative thoughts, fears, or superficial chatter going through your mind. Try to let your mind be as still as possible. Briefly focus on your question and ask your higher self to help reveal any information that will bring you the answers or guidance you seek. Focus on this for no more than 2 minutes, then let it go. The rest of your time in the bath should be done quietly, allowing the mind and body to relax as much as possible.
When the bath is complete, exit the tub and extinguish the candles. These candles can be used again for the same exercise. Take your petition paper and add a pinch of the remaining herbs directly in the middle of the paper. Fold each quart of the paper towards the center until the herbs are fully covered. Then fold the paper in half, making sure the fold is facing your body. Turn it 90 degrees and repeat. Do this one more time. Tie it with your string and place it directly under your pillow or mattress. I recommend keeping a journal on the side of your bed; right before you go to sleep, ask your higher self to reveal to you any guidance or answer that pertains to your question.
When you wake up the following day, take 10 to 15 minutes to contemplate on your intention. What feelings or impressions do you experience? If you have a dream or thought that gives more insight into the issue at hand, Jot down this information and enter it into your journal; if you still need more clarity, continue practicing this ritual. Over time, you will intuitively know the answer you seek.

]]>The "Kitchen Witch" is a real witch. Using time-honored traditions, the Kitchen Witch infuses daily life with witchcraft. Whether through cooking or baking, magical intentions and rituals are found in every kitchen. Kitchen witchery is practical everyday magic. A kitchen witch sees the act of cooking or baking as a magical act. They might stir a pot in a clockwise direction to attract positive energy or use herbs and spices that have certain traditional symbolic meanings.
The cook who makes chicken noodle soup with fresh herbs and the intention to soothe a child’s cold is a kitchen witch! In traditional folklore, rosemary is used to purify and protect. Garlic wards off evil spirits, and it protects against negative energies. Not only does sage have a delightfully savory taste, it also purifies and detoxes. Let’s garnish with parsley which adds flavor and color as it purifies and protects.
The baker uses the sweetness of sugar to elicit feelings of love and warmth. Because the sweetness of sugar is associated with love, joy, abundance, and attraction, the creation of scrumptiously sweet offerings is a magical act in and of itself. Outside of the kitchen, sugar can be used in spells by adding it to love drawing candles or by creating a honey pot or sweetening jar. Check out our article on the New Love Honey Spell.

Before you begin, however, there are some basic steps that can help you get the most out of your magic. Let’s break down some simple steps that can enhance your rituals in a simple and effective way.
Before you begin any spell, it’s first important to create a space that feels just right to you. Begin by cleansing your space and dispelling negative energy. Many spell kits will include items such as incense, smudges, or spiritual sprays. Not only can these be used during your smells, they can also be used for cleansing and blessing your sacred space. Make sure you smudge or spray down the area you wish to work in. If your ritual spell kit does not come with a cleansing tool, you can simply mix some salt and water into a bottle and gently mist the area you wish to work in. Another technique is to visualize white light filling the space you wish to work in. You may want to consider saying a prayer or an intention.
When this is complete, arrange your ritual tools and kit components neatly and in a way that feels right to you. You can also light some extra candles to call in the element of fire or place some crystals around the area you wish to work. Choose crystals that embody specific energies or intentions. This can help amplify the energy and power of your ritual.
Having a clear picture of what you wish to achieve is one of the most important elements of spell casting. Take a moment to reflect on what you hope to achieve and write it down on a piece of parchment paper or simply speak it aloud. The more precise you are, the better. This will enable you to direct the energy in a clear and concise way throughout the ritual.
Ritual Spell kits typically contain all the necessary tools to perform a ritual, but there are a few other things you need to consider before you begin any type of magic. You always want to start by calming your mind and body with meditation and visualization. Take some deep breaths and ground yourself so you feel centered and connected. One grounding technique, for example, is to visualize roots extending from your feet, anchoring you firmly to the earth.
Any time you are working with magical tools and ingredients, you are going to need to bless and charge them. If your ritual spell kit comes with a number of items, each item should be blessed. Hold each item in your hands, close your eyes, and picture a pure, white light embracing it. State your intention aloud or, if you prefer, you can say it silently. This charges your tools and ingredients with your energy and intention. This process infuses each piece with your own unique energy making them completely personal to you.
Follow the instructions provided with your ritual spell kit. Most ritual spell kits will come with step-by-step directions. For example, anoint candles with conjure oils, prepare spell bags or spiritual bath salts with specific herbs, or arrange crystals in meaningful patterns. Stay focused on every action you take. Visualize yourself receiving your intentions throughout the entire process.
To supercharge your spellwork, you need to raise the energy field. Once you feel or sense the energy, you can then direct it to amplify your intention by sending it out into the universe. There's no one-size-fits-all approach here. There are countless ways to do this, and it really depends on what feels right to you. Some examples of this include chanting, drumming, dancing or visualization.
Here's an easy visualization technique. Imagine a radiant ball of energy growing inside your belly. With every breath you take, let it expand and begin to move throughout your body. As you raise and channel this energy, try to stay present. Feel its power. When it reaches its zenith, picture the energy moving from your hands into the spell’s focal point. When this feels complete, release the energy from your body and imagine it taking a life of its own, pushing your spell out into the universe so it can manifest.
When you feel your ritual has been completed, take a moment and give thanks. Trust your intention is now manifesting and coming towards you in a perfect and harmonious way. Close the ritual by taking a few moments to, once again, ground yourself. Picture any remaining magical energy seeping into the nourishing earth. Try to let go of your attachments to outcomes. Trust that your intention will unfold in a way that is good for you and all those involved.
Once you've finished casting your spell, take some time to reflect on your experience. Allow this experience to deepen your connection with the magic you've created. You may also want to keep a journal. Journal after a spell, can help you keep track of any sensations, visions, or intuitive insights you had during the process. Over time, this can become extremely useful in spell casting as your own intuition and insights can help guide you through your ritual work.
Keep in mind that spellwork is a journey. Regularly returning to your ritual spell kits, updating their contents, and tailoring them to your evolving intentions can keep your magical practice vibrant and aligned with your personal growth and aspirations.

A full moon ritual is one of the more common moon rituals performed for manifestation. During this period, practitioners can focus their energy and bring their goals and desire to fruition. Whether you seek love, abundance, or spiritual growth, a full moon ritual can empower the energy you're putting out, making it the perfect time to work on your intentions for drawing in and manifesting the things you want.
One popular and easy full moon ritual is to create some Moon Magic Oil. This is one of the easier approaches to harnessing the power of the moon. It is simply done by leaving a container of carrier oil mixed with moon-related herbs outside under the light of a full moon. The moon oil absorbs the moon's energy, making it a powerful tool for attraction and manifestation magic. Moon Magic Oil can be used to anoint sacred objects, dabbed in the bath, or rubbed onto talismans, amulets, and candles. Dab some onto important documents, or place a drop or two on a charcoal disc and burn it as incense.
To create your own Full Moon Ritual Oil, you will need the following items:
Place your oil in a container, and then add your herbs. Leave them outside under the full moon for 24 hours. After this period, you can then use your oil for manifestation work. Just make sure that when you perform your spell or ritual, it’s during a new moon or full moon.
Another way a moon ritual can be used is for releasing negative energy and letting go of things that no longer serve you. This can include anything from negative thoughts and behavior patterns to toxic relationships or old habits. A waning moon can help you detach from the things and people you wish to move on from. Waning rituals are to used to banish and purify, and in this regard, a moon ritual bath is a perfect way to cleanse away negative energy and let go of situations that you no longer wish to have in your life.
For a waning moon ritual bath, you will need the following items:
Three days after a full moon, add your herbs to a pot with two cups of water. Simmer them over a low flame for 15 minutes. Allow the water to completely cool, and remove the herbs. Then, get your pen and paper and write out exactly what you wish to banish or remove from your life. Run a warm bath and light a white candle. Add your two cups of herbal water directly into the bath. When ready, immerse yourself in the bath. Focus on all the things you wish to discard in your life. Imagine the water cleansing you of the things you wish to release. When the bath is complete, take your paper (list of things you want to banish) and burn it in the candle flame. Then, take the remaining ashes from your paper, walk outside, and blow the ashes away from you. You also want to make sure you blow the ashes away from your home. This is a symbolic act that can help you release negative energy to create a space that can help you invite new things in.
In addition to manifestation and release rituals, the full moon is also a time for divination work and to broaden your spiritual insight. A full moon can help you connect to your intuition and higher self. This is particularly useful for divination. Tarot readings, rune casting, and scrying are all examples of divination practices that can be performed with full moon energy.
What you need:
If using a small bowl of water, add 15 drops of oil to the bowl of water. Place your two candles on each side of the bowl of water. When ready, light your blue chime candle. If you are using a small mirror, then place a candle on each side of the mirror. Anoint your oil on your temples and third eye (between your eyebrows). You may also place a few drops on the bottom of your feet.
While peering into either the mirror or bowl of water, allow your mind to focus on a source of light. Allow the light to fill your mind, and begin to let go of your thoughts. Although this can be difficult, it gets much easier with practice. As a new thought comes into your mind, let it go and re-focus on your source of light. When you feel a slight shift of consciousness, sometimes this is simply a calm or centered feeling; allow the images to filter back into your mind. Sometimes it is a thought, a picture, a word, or just a feeling. As this begins to filter through, give it permission to "give you its message." After this is complete or you feel a sense of understanding, return to the light source on which you have been focusing. You may repeat the process or simply begin to focus on the room's surroundings to bring you out.
When performing a full moon ritual, it’s always important to approach it with care and intention. Take the time to prepare yourself and your space before starting your ritual. Make sure to cleanse your space with sage or other herbs and take some deep breaths to ground yourself in the present moment. Give yourself enough time to become fully present. Try and let go of any negative thoughts. Remember to always draw on the moon's energy and visualize it filling you with its power and strength.

]]>The goal of the altar is to help the practitioner or (witch) is to connect to the divine spirit, natural world, and their own inner intuitive selves. Setting up the altar begins with choosing the right location, picking a surface, and gathering the altar tools you choose to work with. Regardless of which wiccan supplies you choose to work with, your altar needs to speak to you in a holistic way. Meaning you are ultimately the one who needs to define how you wish to use it to connect to divine energy and the natural world.
Let’s start with the athame. The athame is a double-edged ritual knife typically used for cutting and directing energy. The Athame is symbolic, and in most cases, it is not used for actual cutting. It symbolizes the element of Air. The element of air is associated with the intellect and power of the mind. You will want to place the athame in the east quadrant of your altar, as the East is associated with the element of Air. Some practitioners prefer to place the athame on the right side of the altar. In this case, the right side of the altar is associated with God and masculine energy.
The wand is one of the most identifiable Wiccan tools used in magic. The wand is used to direct energy and invoke the elements. It represents the element of Fire and the will. Place the wand in the south quadrant of your altar. Some Wiccans choose to place the wand next to the athame. Both these tools can be used for directing energy. A Wiccan may choose either depending on how they wish to work with energy.
The chalice is a goblet or cup used to hold water or wine. The chalice symbolizes the element of Water. The element of water is associated with emotions and intuition. You will want to place the chalice in the west quadrant of your altar, as the West direction is associated with the element of Water and the Goddess and feminine energy.
Another widely utilized Wiccan supply is the pentacle. The pentacle is typically displayed as a disk or plate inscribed with a pentagram. The Pentacle represents the five elements and is used for grounding and protection. It symbolizes the element of Earth and the physical realm. You will want to place the pentacle in the north quadrant of your altar, as the North is associated with the element of Earth. Some practitioners choose to use the pentacle as a central focal point on their altar. Because the Pentacle represents each element: earth, air, fire, water, and spirit, placing it as a central focal point can symbolize the perfect balance of all elements.
Another important Wiccan altar supply is the censor. The censer or incense burner is a container for burning incense, which is used to cleanse, purify, and create a sacred atmosphere. Incense represents the element of Air and can be placed alongside the athame in the east quadrant of your altar. Alternatively, you can position the censer in the center of your altar, as it helps create a bridge between the physical world and spiritual realms.
Wiccan candles are a widely used tool in the Wiccan practice. They help by invoking the elements, setting your intentions, and creating the perfect sacred space for you to work in. Typically candles are placed in each of the cardinal directions (North, East, South, and West) to represent each of the four elements. You can also use colored Wiccan Candles to symbolize your different intentions (e.g., white for purity, green for prosperity, blue for healing, pink for love, or red for passion).
They are a number of other Wiccan supplies that can be used in your rituals. Wiccan Oils, Magick Candles, Crystals, Herbs, and all other sorts of supplies can be incorporated. The most important thing to remember is that there really isn’t a right way or wrong way. Your altar should be personal and reflect your own spiritual beliefs. Ultimately, your altar is a tool to deepen your spiritual practice.

Jezebel Oil originated in the Southern United States, most notably in Louisiana. It was believed to be used by prostitutes to attract wealthy customers. Over time, Jezebel Hoodoo Oil has been adopted and used for various purposes, such as attracting wealth, drawing in love, and cursing, particularly other women. Jezebel has both biblical and historical references. Historically, Jezebel was a famous Phoenician queen who was known for her ability to influence King Ahab, the king of Israel. She was also believed to be a co-ruler and wielded tremendous power. Her ability to influence his position on religion was the source of her infamous biblical associations.
In Hoodoo, Jezebel is associated with a powerful and seductive woman who can use her charms to manipulate and influence. Made with the root of Iris hexagonal, Jezebel Hoodoo Oil is believed to embody the spirit of this powerful woman, and it is used by women to attract and control men. In this regard, Jezebel has compelling and controlling abilities, so be careful how you use it!
Jezebel oil is made from the root of the Iris hexagona, otherwise known as the Louisiana Iris. It is then blended with a number of other herbs, minerals, roots, and essential oils. Although recipes can vary from person to person, any decent jezebel needs to include this root; otherwise, it simply won’t be as effective.
For a true domination oil, Jezebel root can be combined with several potent herbs and oils associated with commanding spells, such as licorice root, calamus, clove, bergamot, and elderberry. Jezebel root can be combined with jasmine, vanilla, elecampane, orris root, and catnip as a true passion-inducing and love and attraction oil. It can be combined with cinnamon, ginger, bay, vetiver, and chamomile for business matters. Of course, combinations of these herbs can be used together should one wish to make an oil that targets all these purposes.
As we mentioned before, Jezebel Hoodoo oil can be used for a number of intentions. Here are some of the most common uses of Jezebel Hoodoo oil:
For a simple Jezebel Spell to attract a wealthy partner or to draw in more money, you will need the following items:
Begin by writing out your name 3 times on your piece of paper, turn the paper 90 degrees to the right and the write out your intention directly on top of your name three times. Then fold the paper in half, making sure you are closing the paper towards your body. Then turn the paper to the right 90 degrees and fold it again. Repeat this two more times. Lay it flat on a table. Take your herbs and gently sprinkle them over the petition.
Next, grab your plate and place it directly on top of the paper and herbal mixture. Next, get your candle and carve your name and intention directly on the candle. Place the candle in a candle holder and put it on the plate.
Then take a few drops of Jezebel Oil and dab it into the palm of your hand. Then anoint your candle by starting at the middle of the candle and draw the oil up towards the wick. Then go back to the middle of the candle, and draw the oil down. Place the candle in an appropriate candle holder and place it on your plate. Take your six tea lights and surround the candle you just carved. When ready, light the middle candle (the one you're carved), and then light the tea lights. As you do this, light them in a clockwise direction.
Take a moment to visualize what you wish to manifest. Then either say a prayer, state your intention or read psalm 23 or 112.
]]>People reach out to us all the time. By far, the most common questions we get concern the nature of spells and spellwork. So we’ve decided to break down what a spell is, how they work, and how you can cast one. In truth, almost anybody can cast a spell. Although they are most commonly assumed to be a form of witchcraft and Wicca, this is by no means the case. Anybody who wishes to cast a spell in order to manifest their intentions can work magic. In general, spells are a group of rituals, incantations, or specific practices designed to influence and channel natural forces in order to achieve a specific aim or objective. These rituals frequently involve the use or ritual items, such as candles, herbs, and/or crystals. The four elements of fire, earth, air, and water are also commonly used in crafting spells, particularly Wiccan Spells. In essence, these spells serve as instruments for practitioners to interact with and harness the force of nature. to achieve their goals.
Goals and Intentions of Wiccan Spells
Wiccan spells can be cast for a wide range of intentions and goals. Manifesting more money, creating a shield of protection, attracting new love, or generating more abundance are some of the most common ones. However, there are a vast amount of other intentions, and there is always a spell or ritual that can help you manifest them.
What is a Wiccan Spell?
Witchcraft and Wiccan spells are commonly mistaken for one another. This is not always the case. Witchcraft is a much larger and more universal practice that uses magic to affect particular circumstances by influencing natural forces, whereas Wicca is a religion that promotes and fosters a relationship with nature. This relationship and connection can enable them to work the natural forces to help manifest their goals and intentions. Witchcraft, on the other hand, does not need to be connected to a particular religion. Witchcraft can be a form of art, a spiritual practice, or simply a set of actions that can be performed to accomplish certain objectives.
Wiccan spells are rituals that access the power of the universe in order to manifest a specific intention. Wiccans strive to live in harmony with nature and use this power to shape and influence their lives in a positive way. Spells can be done in a variety of ways, and they can be performed alone or with a group of others.
How do Spells Work
The goal of any spell is to connect with the abundant energy in the universe. It’s this power that drives the force of a spell and helps it come to fruition. Wiccans believe that by doing specific rituals and using certain materials, they can control this energy to help them manifest their intentions. For instance, a money spell might include burning a green candle and sprinkling money related herbs onto the flame since both of these things encourage prosperity and abundance.
It's also important to note that Wiccan spells shouldn’t be used as a means to control or manipulate other people. Typically, the Wiccan religion discourages causing harm to another person. Wiccan spells, in particular, are really not meant to hurt anyone or make someone do something against their will. Instead, the goal of a spell focuses on connecting with the natural world and using its energy to achieve positive results and outcomes that are not meant to harm others.
The Wiccan religion utilizes a concept known as the Rule of Three. This principle is a fundamentally moral one. Its core premise is that whatever energy a practitioner puts out, whether its positive or negative, it will return to them threefold. Yes, it’s just like karma!. So any unethical behavior will eventually have repercussions for the one who uses magic in a negative way. It’s a reminder that spells should always utilize the power of nature in a positive way.
The power of any spell comes from your intention and ability to focus. It's always helpful to get as clear as you can prior to casting a spell. This can help you get a clearer picture of what you wish to manifest. Journaling is a great way to help this process. Vision boards, meditation, or any other type of creative or spiritual practice can also enhance this process. The more focused you are, the better the results of a spell.
Spells can be used as a way to support someone’s actions and intentions and help someone reach their goals. Spells can be employed for a wide range of intentions. Some of the most common goals include:
How do you perform a Wiccan Spell?
Now we are getting down to the nitty-gritty. Spells can be done alone or in groups of people. No matter which you choose, it's helpful to follow a few guidelines.
When your spell is complete, you now need to turn the results over to the Universe. You've done your part. In essence, you need to release it and let the results go. Magic is a funny thing. Sometimes it works quickly, other times it can take some time. More importantly, magic can't be forced. You simply let it happen on its own time schedule and trust in the process.
You can also create spells of your own that are totally unique to you, or you can use those that are commonly practiced by others. We offer tons of spells, some very old and some new. In fact, each product page we have offers a variety of spells you can work with. You can also check our blog articles, we offer a ton of spells that target a wide variety of intentions. For example, our article, The Spells of Famous Grimoires, covers a wide variety of spells such as love, protection, and healing.
]]>Altar
It all begins with an altar. This is the place where the magic happens. In essence, your altar is a sacred place where you can connect with divine energy. This energy helps to enhance your rituals or magic spells. The altar is the heart of your practice, and it should be personal to you. Your altar can be as simple or elaborate as you want. The most important thing to remember is that any altar you create should always be a reflection of your own personal beliefs.
You don't need anything fancy for your altar. You can use a small table, a shelf, or even a tiny corner of your room, and this doesn’t have to be a complicated or elaborate process. When you're setting up your altar, have fun with it! Decorate it with symbols, statues, or pictures that mean something to you. And remember, a little TLC goes a long way. Keep your space clean and well-cared for. You may want to cleanse and consecrate it every week. This way, you'll always have a welcoming and safe place for your spiritual or Pagan practice.
Athame or Ritual Knife
The athame is a double-edged knife or dagger that typically has a black handle. This knife is an important pagan tool in ritual work. Although it's not meant for cutting physical objects, the athame is used to direct energy and cut through spiritual barriers. You can use it to draw symbols in the air, cast circles, invoke deities and elements, delineate the boundaries of your sacred space, or direct energy during your magic spells and rituals.
Some practitioners prefer to use a boline. A boline has a single-edged, curved blade – that can be similarly used in your pagan spells and rituals. Whichever you choose to work with, it’s important to keep your ritual knife separate from your other Wiccan supplies and dedicate it solely to your spiritual practice.
Wand
The Wand is another one of the more important pagan supplies needed for the pagan practitioner. The wand is a classic symbol of magic and a popular tool of many Wiccan and pagan practitioners. Made from various materials like wood, crystal, or metal, the wand is used to focus and direct energy during rituals and spellwork. You can purchase a wand or make one yourself, which adds a personal touch to your magical workings.
Like everything else in magic, choosing the right wand needs to be something you personally resonate with. Consider the type of energy you'd like it to possess. For example, oak is known for strength and protection, while willow is associated with intuition and emotions. Some pagan practitioners will decorate their wands with crystals, ribbons, or runes to enhance their power. Like your altar, your wand should be a personal reflection of you. Consider decorating them with items that represent you. You could use apply shells, stones, yarn, or anything else you can dream of.
Chalice
The chalice, or ritual cup, is a symbol of the element of water and represents the divine feminine. It’s used in various ceremonies, magic spells and rituals or to hold water, wine, or other liquids, symbolizing the essence of life and spiritual nourishment. Choose a chalice that speaks to your spiritual path, whether it's a simple cup or an intricately decorated goblet.
Pentacle
The pentacle is one of the most recognized symbols and pagan tools in Paganism. The pentacle has a five-pointed star within a circle. Each star represents each of the four elements – earth, air, fire, and water – plus a fifth element, which is that of spirit. Pentacles can be made from all types of materials, such as wood, clay, or metal. They are typically placed on the altar for protection and balance.
Incense and Candles
Both incense and candles play a significant role in Pagan rituals. Incense is used to cleanse spaces, invite positive energies, and represent the element of air. There are countless varieties of incense, with different scents corresponding to specific intentions or energies. Some popular choices include sage for cleansing, lavender for relaxation, and frankincense for spiritual connection.
Candles are versatile tools in Paganism, representing the element of fire and the transformative power of light. They can be used for various purposes, such as setting the mood, focusing intent, or representing specific energies. Choose candles in colors that correspond to your intentions, and don't forget to cleanse and consecrate them before use. Dark green candles, for instance, are ideal for spells and rituals centered around prosperity, abundance, and growth. There are also spell candles that can be purchased by other practitioners and Wiccan supplies stores. “Fixed” spell candles include all the necessary herbs and essential oils to perform a spell. Typically, the oils are added to the wax during production, and once the wax has cooled, the candles are then topped with herbs that correspond to a specific intention.
Herbs and Wiccan Oils are other important Wiccan supplies you may want to incorporate into your practice. You can learn more about their use and the way they are made by checking out our article, How to use Wiccan Oils, Conjure Oils & Ritual Oils with Simple Recipes.
Crystals and Gemstones
Crystals and gemstones are beloved by many Pagans for their beautiful appearance and powerful energies. Each stone has its unique properties and can be used for healing, protection, manifestation, or meditation. Start with a few essential crystals, such as clear quartz (amplification), amethyst (intuition), and rose quartz (love), and gradually expand your collection to include stones that resonate with your intentions and spiritual path.
Divination Tools
Divination is the practice of seeking insight or guidance from the divine or the universe. Another one of the more popular pagan supplies are divination tools, such as tarot cards, runes, or pendulums. Many practitioners will use them to communicate with their higher selves, spirit guides, or deities. Choose a divination tool that resonates with you and take the time to learn its symbolism and practice your skills.
Book of Shadows
A Book of Shadows (BoS) or grimoire is a personal journal in which Pagans record their spells, rituals, experiences, and spiritual knowledge. This can be a simple notebook, a beautifully bound book, or even a digital document. Your BoS is a living document that evolves with your practice, so feel free to add, remove, or modify its contents as needed. Include your experiences with your various witchcraft supplies, the magical spells you performed, and the type of spell candles and incense you worked with to keep track of your progress and growth.
OIfferings and Sacred Items
Last but not least, consider including offerings and sacred items on your altar or within your sacred space. Offerings can be anything from food and drink to crystals, flowers, or handmade crafts. These little tokens of appreciation are a lovely way to show respect and gratitude to the deities, ancestors, or spirits you may choose to work with.
Some of the common sacred items can include statues or representations of your Gods or Goddess, animal spirits or totems, ancestors, or any other symbols that can represent something sacred to you. These items can help create a sense of connection and deepen your spiritual practice.
While this list of Pagan supplies doesn't cover everything, it does touch upon some of the most important ones that can help you create a meaningful and powerful practice. Remember, your practice doesn't need to be perfect; it's your journey that counts. The real power lies in your intentions and commitment, so don't worry about having the "perfect" list of all the witchcraft supplies. Let your practice naturally evolve, and trust in yourself and the magic within you.
